The night

A translation of one of the poems of Nikos Aslanoglou.

The night

All this unforeseen delight,

when I first saw the bright lights coming from the terraces,

and the wind passed through the wide open windows,

finding somehow its way right into my soul,

while we were faintheartedly walking through spring into an invisible summer.

That moment I realised that my youth had started to bloom like a flower,

and now the gardens are full of lyrics

and I use the poems that I write for you to water them

and I stand among them, flooded by emotions,

and I ask you, how can my heart stand all this delight?
